Misconceived contradictions of the Quran

Salam,

The Quran is a perfect Book from Allah and there is no contradiction or error as it is stated: Do they not consider the Qur'an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy. (Surah 4:82). Some readers may have looked at certain verses and claim it to be in contradiction but the Quran must be deliberated in totality as a whole Book then it will expunge misconceived contradictions to the ultimate truth of the message.

Misconceived contradictions over the people of Aad

The claim that the Quran at Surah 54:19 mentions Aad was destroyed in a day but in Quran at Surah 69:6 & 7 mention that Aad was destroyed in seven nights and eight days.  The complete verses are as stated below:

For We sent against them a furious wind, on a Day of violent Disaster, (Surah 54:19)

And the 'Ad, they were destroyed by a furious Wind, exceedingly violent; He made it rage against them seven nights and eight days in succession: so that thou couldst see the (whole) people lying prostrate in its (path), as they had been roots of hollow palm-trees tumbled down!  (Surah 69:6-7)

The Surah 54:19 clearly says Allah sent against them on a day of violent disaster not destroyed them in a day. That day of violent disaster continues for seven nights and eight days as stated in Surah 69:7.

Misconceived contradictions over Mary with the angel

It is claimed that in the Quran at Surah 19:17 shows an angel appeared to Mary but while in the Quran at verse 3:42 shows several angels appeared. This appears as a contradiction whether one angel or many angels visited Mary. The full verses are stated below:

She placed a screen (to screen herself) from them; then We sent her our angel, and he appeared before her as a man in all respects. (Surah 19:17).
Behold! The angels said: "O Mary! Allah hath chosen thee and purified thee- chosen thee above the women of all nations. (Surah 3:42)
There is no contradiction in the above as Mary was visited twice by a group of angels who announced to her that she was chosen and to worship Allah. The other time was when an angel visited her to announce of a son at Surah 19:17-21.

Misconceived contradictions over Pharaoh’s body and soul
The disputer claimed that the Quran at Surah 28:40 mentions Pharaoh drowned and died but in Quran 10:92 states that the same Pharaoh was saved. Both the verses are stated below:

So We seized him and his hosts, and We flung them into the sea: Now behold what was the end of those who did wrong! (Surah 28:40).

"This day shall We save thee in the body, that thou mayest be a sign to those who come after thee! but verily, many among mankind are heedless of Our Signs!" (Surah 10:92).

This is a simple case which one should be aware between the soul and the body. At death Allah take the soul from the body as stated in this verse of the Quran: It is Allah that takes the souls at death; and those that dies not He takes during their sleep: those on whom He has passed the decree of death, He keeps back from returning to life, but the rest He sends (to their bodies) for a term appointed verily in this are Signs for those who reflect. (Surah 39:42).

Death means the soul is separated from the body and taken away by Allah and human is no more functioning. This is what had happened to Pharaoh his soul was taken but at Surah 10:92 Allah saved not the soul instead He saved Pharaoh’s body from rotting.  This is mummifying of the Egyptian Pharaohs of their bodies and until today the bodies remain intact but their souls were taken back until the Day of Judgment. So the body of Pharaoh was saved not of his soul from death. The body is preserved as a sign for future generation to ponder of his misdeeds.

Misconceived contradictions the sun set over a muddy spring of water

Until, when he reached the setting of the sun, he found it set in a spring of murky water: Near it he found a people: We said: "O Zul-qarnain! (thou hast authority,) either to punish them, or to treat them with kindness." (Surah 18:86)

It is claimed that the Quran at Surah 18:86 states that the sun sets in a muddy spring of water. To them this is an illogical statement in the Quran as the sun did not set at any place at all.

However those people were confused and refused to acknowledge that the Surah 18:86 is an allegorical verse to show this person by the name of Zulkarnain made the travel to the deepest west where the sun indicated as if it sets over a dark horizon as if it set in a muddy spring. Nevertheless there is another verse allegorical in nature a few verses away from Surah 18:86 which says “Until, when he came to the rising of the sun, he found it rising on a people for whom We had provided no covering protection against the sun” at Surah 18:90 again an allegorical which indicates that he went to the farthest east part of the world where the sun rises. Thus it does not mean the sun actually set in murky water or it rises over the head of a person. Both verses are allegorical.

Misconceived contradictions over Surah 15:19 stating the earth is flat.

And the earth We have spread out (like a carpet); set thereon mountains firm and immovable; and produced therein all kinds of things in due balance. (Surah 15:19)

There is nothing wrong with the earth is flat because the land was created by Allah originally flat and He covered it later with mountains as stated in the above verse. Before the Day of Judgment Allah will demolish the mountain and the earth will be flattened again without any mountain. The following verses of the Quran were referred:

And when the earth is flattened out (Surah 84:3); They ask thee concerning the mountains: say, "My Lord will uproot them and scatter them as dust; "He will leave them as plains smooth and level (Surah 20:105-106) and the verse which states: One Day the earth and the mountains will be in violent commotion. And the mountains will be as a heap of sand poured out and flowing down. (Surah 73:14)

Misconceived contradiction over Surah 86:6-7 mentioning that semen emits from between back-bone and the ribs.

He is created from a drop emitted, Proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs: Surely (Allah) is able to bring him back (to life)! (Surah 86:6-8)

There is no contradiction with the verses that quoted: He is created from a drop/water emitted-proceeding from between the backbone and the ribs. The water first will flow into the throat and pressured downward all over the body. This can be just explained in common sense.

Misconceived contradiction the Quran 19:27-28 says that Mary was the sister of Aaron, whereas history shows they were born about 1300 years apart.

At length she brought the (babe) to her people, carrying him (in her arms). They said: "O Mary! Truly an amazing thing hast thou brought! "O sister of Aaron! Thy father was not a man of evil, nor thy mother a woman unchaste!" (Surah 19:27-28)

The Quran does not view the above verses as the Jews or the Christians view their Book where Mary and Aaron were then sister and brother of Moses. Sister in the above verse means Mary is the relative or descendant of Aaron instead of Moses. Moses and Aaron have the same mother but different father resulting in two family trees as stated in the Quran: And further their Prophet said to them: "A Sign of his authority is that there shall come to you the Ark of the covenant, with (an assurance) therein of security from your Lord, and the relics left by the family of Moses and the family of Aaron, carried by angels. In this is a symbol for you if ye indeed have faith." (Surah 2:248).

The Quran is showing Mary was a descendant of Aaron instead of Moses.

Misconceived contradiction that the Quran at Surah 28:8 says that pharaoh and Haman were living at the same time and place whereas history clearly shows that they were born about 1000 years apart and pharaoh lived in Egypt and Haman lived in Shushan city in Persia.

History can pick the same name to provide the contradiction but it is not a contradiction in the Quran as Moses, Pharaoh and Haman were all contemporary and their story is the truth from Allah as the Quran is the truth from Allah as stated: We rehearse to thee some of the story of Moses and Pharaoh in Truth, for people who believe. (Surah 28:3)

Those who claimed the Quran is full of contradictions did not read the Quran in detailed had they done so they would realized that the Quran is the Book from God and He will protect it from any crookedness and this is the reason these kind of verses were inspired to the Prophet as a challenge to the disbelievers:

It is a Qur'an in Arabic, without any crookedness (therein): in order that they may guard against Evil. (Surah 39:28)

Do they not consider the Qur'an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein much discrepancy. (Surah 4:82)

This Qur'an is not such as can be produced by other than Allah; on the contrary it is a confirmation of (revelations) that went before it, and a fuller explanation of the Book - wherein there is no doubt - from the Lord of the worlds. (Surah 10:37)

Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) marriage to Zayd’s wife

Salam,
In another fabrication against the good name of Prophet Muhammad (Pbuh) the Christians and the Jews accused Muhammad’s pursuit of Zaynab, the wife of his adopted son is almost as tough for Muslims to explain the verse of the Quran at Surah 33:37. According to them this is because it not only raises a similar question of moral character, but also casts suspicion on whether his so-called prophecies were really divine revelation or dictates of personal convenience.

The full verse of Surah 33:37 of the Quran

Behold! Thou didst say to one who had received the grace of Allah and thy favor: "Retain thou (in wedlock) thy wife, and fear Allah." But thou didst hide in thy heart that which Allah was about to make manifest: thou didst fear the people, but it is more fitting that thou shouldst fear Allah. Then when Zaid had dissolved (his marriage) with her, with the necessary (formality), We joined her in marriage to thee: in order that (in future) there may be no difficulty to the Believers in (the matter of) marriage with the wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have dissolved with the necessary (formality) (their marriage) with them. And Allah's command must be fulfilled. (Surah 33:37)

If the above verse is scrutinized deeper one will find that at the end of the verse above it is stated that Allah’s command must be fulfilled whether the Prophet do it willingly or unwilling he was compelled to obey the command.

In the beginning of the verse which says “Behold! Thou didst say to one who had received the grace of Allah and thy favor: "Retain thou (in wedlock) thy wife, and fear Allah."

In this early part of the verse the Prophet (Pbuh) instructed Zayd who is favored by Allah and himself to retain his wife and fear Allah. It can be seen that the Prophet was commanded by Allah to marry Zayd’s wife but he did not revealed the command by Allah and he kept silent over the command for he fear the negative reaction from his community of marrying the adopted son‘s wife. At any generation whether during his days or even now marrying the adopted son’s wife is like marrying his own son’s wife. The Prophet did not feel good and it also will not look proper for the Prophet in his society but Allah showed His indignation that the Prophet should fear Him more than he should fear or be ashame of his people. Thus Allah said to him: "But thou didst hide in thy heart that which Allah was about to make manifest: thou didst fear the people, but it is more fitting that thou should fear Allah.”

Ultimately the Prophet submitted to the command of Allah as stated in the same verse: “Then when Zaid had dissolved (his marriage) with her, with the necessary (formality), We joined her in marriage to thee: in order that (in future) there may be no difficulty to the Believers in (the matter of) marriage with the wives of their adopted sons, when the latter have dissolved with the necessary (formality) (their marriage) with them. And Allah's command must be fulfilled.”

The lesson showed in the above verse is that although the Prophet was not in favor to marry the adopted son’s wife he must eliminate this feeling of remorse as it is a command of Allah and the command must be obeyed as he fear the wrath of Allah.

In the Quran it is stated that this is common for prophets to experience when in the service for Allah they have to do some things which they do not like but they still do it to please Allah as stated: There can be no difficulty to the Prophet in what Allah has indicated to him as a duty. It was the practice (approved) of Allah amongst those of old that have passed away. And the command of Allah is a decree determined. (Surah 33:38)

The rationale behind the ruling that a man can marry the former wife of his adopted son is to show that blood relative have prior claim in relationship and in inheritance. It is common instance that whenever a family without children adopted a child they tend to love the child dearly even after they had their own child. There are many cases the parent love more the adopted child that they tend to leave their entire estate to that child. The Quran cautioned Muslims from neglecting near family who are blood relatives as stated in this verse:

And those who accept faith subsequently, and adopt exile, and fight for the Faith in your company, they are of you. But kindred by blood have prior rights against each other in the Book of Allah. Verily Allah is well-acquainted with all things. (Surah 8:75).

The distribution of estate in Surah 4:11-12 and Surah 4:176 is the indication where blood relative have priority and to be written in the will and only if there is a portion left for others than the adopted child shared can be willed by the testator.

With the ruling that a man can marry his adopted son’s wife another ruling connected is activated that the adopted child should keep the name of his true father’s name or if it is unknown than use other names but not the adopted father’s name as stated:

Allah has not made for any man two hearts in his (one) body: nor has He made your wives whom ye divorce by Zihar your mothers: nor has He made your adopted sons your sons. Such is (only) your (manner of) speech by your mouths. But Allah tells (you) the Truth, and He shows the (right) Way. Call them by (the names of) their fathers: that is juster in the sight of Allah. But if ye know not their father's (names, call them) your brothers in faith, or your maulas. But there is no blame on you if ye make a mistake therein: (what counts is) the intention of your hearts: and Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful. The Prophet is closer to the Believers than their own selves, and his wives are their mothers. Blood-relations among each other have closer personal ties, in the Decree of Allah. Than (the Brotherhood of) Believers and Muhajirs: nevertheless do ye what is just to your closest friends: such is the writing in the Decree (of Allah). (Surah 33:4-6)

The Quran proved Prophet Muhammad did not marry a six old girl

Salam,

The Hadith Sahih Bukhari supported by the Christians and the Jews accused the Prophet Muhammad of marrying a girl of six year old stating * Mohammad is considered a prophet and the ideal man. (Koran 68:4, 33:21) * Mohammad (51) married his favorite child bride Aisha when she was 6. * Mohammad (54) deflowered the nubile Aisha when she was 9.

The Quran proved that the Prophet did not marry a 6 year old girl as claimed by Bukhari and those who supported this claim because:

The Quran confirmed all the wives of the Prophet are all woman and of marriageable age as stated in this verse: O Consorts (Nisaa’) of the Prophet! Ye are not like any of the (other) women (Surah 33:32). The word Arabic “Nisa’a” only refers to woman or womanhood so there is no girl as wife of the Prophet.

Furthermore a girl is only allowed to marry if she qualifies herself matured and able to manage her own property as required by the ruling of the Quran as brought by Muhammad as stated in this verse: Make trial of orphans until they reach the age of marriage; if then ye find sound judgment in them, release their property to them. (Surah 4:6).

This means that a 6 year old girl cannot qualify under the Quranic ruling to marry any man. Only a moron will believe the Prophet married a 6 year old girl who cannot manage her own property, cannot do her own marketing and cooking, and cannot look after the house all by herself and most important she is not mature enough to be a wife.

The Quran tells the truth that marrying a 6 year old is against Allah’s command and the Prophet will not disobey Allah’s command. The Truth comes from Allah alone; so be not of those who doubt. (Surah 3:60)
